Do Americans Really Have the Stomach for Freedom?

September 1, 2002"As long as a hundred of us remain alive we will never be subject to tyrannical dominion because it is not for glory or riches or honours that we fight, but for freedom alone which no worthy man loses except with his life."
--- from The Declaration of Arbroath, 1320
Last week I received a phone call from a nice lady at the NRA who wanted a special gift of $25.00 to fight yet another anti-American, anti-Second Amendment bill in the counterfeit U.S. Senate. This lady went on to tell me how the NRA fights for my gun rights. I've heard it all before.
My response to her was this: Really? Well, you're losing the battle because the same old 'buy and lobby' the lice in Congress or the buzzards in the 50 state legislatures isn't working. The situation has only continued to deteriorate. I told her it's time the gun owners of this country start fighting their own battle to protect their God given right to own and bear arms.
On June 3, 2002, I spoke to the Northern California chapter of the California Rifle and Pistol Association. I told them if you want to stop once and for all the assault on your Second Amendment rights here in California, you're going to have to get tough with the politicians, the same as the determined people did down in the great State of Tennessee on the personal state income tax issue. They put the fear of the people in the state house and the state flinched. The people won.
I told the audience that all you're doing is playing tennis with the state legislature. They hit SB 23 over the net and score a point. You hit back and it's a dud. It's been going on for decades.
How many gun owners are in California? Two, three, four million? Probably. You all belong to some fine gun organization, NRA, GOA, Cal-Apra. Instead of just business as usual with membership drives, why don't you join together, a half million strong and show up at the State Capitol and present a letter to the Reds over in the legislature? Tell them you will no longer put up with their un-American stand on guns and you will not "obey" any more unconstitutional junk gun laws.
It's your right to do this under the First Amendment. I told them we (women gun owners) will be right there with you and we'll be there for a week, day in and day out, if necessary until they get the message. Nothing else is going to get the message across, believe me. I've watched this process go on here in California for years and it's the same old thing on dozens of issues:
The criminally deranged in the greenie movement get out there and make a lot of noise. The gasbags in Congress and the 50 state legislatures tremble.
The morally depraved in the homosexual movement get out there and make a lot of noise. The immoral cowards in Congress and the 50 state legislatures get down on their knees and worship their perversions in the holy name of "tolereance." Such "tolerance" is nothing but stinking indifference and moral bankrupcy.
The conservatives in this country go to the polls and try to vote in conservative Republicans who immediately betray the desperate who "elected" them. The audience looked at me like I'd grown two heads, finished dessert and went home.
The time for tea and crumpets is over. The time for gun owners to put themselves out there on the front lines is here and now and forget letting some big organization out in DC "fight for your rights."
In 1996 while living in the Denver Metro area, I watched 650,000 people converge on downtown Denver to watch the team members of the Colorado Avalanche hold up their newly won Stanley Cup. 650,000 people - an ocean of people and they didn't need no stinking permit either. Can you imagine the fear factor that would ripple through Sacramento at the Capitol if suddenly 500,000 gun owners stood up for their rights in such a way?
Only a complete and total act of defiance at this time in our nation's history is going to get the point across to the lawbreakers in Congress and the 50 state legislatures that the people have had enough.
"Electing a conservative," writing to your congress critter or calling talk radio isn't going to stop the destruction of our rights. Elected officials may call this civil disobedience, radical or extremist behavior, but in the words of Rhett Butler, "Quite frankly, my dear. I don't give a damn."
This is our country, our rights and we have the supreme right to peacefully gather at the state house and present our terms. If we don't run these lawbreakers to ground now, what generation will do it? Take a look around at the cattle grazing out in America.
Freedom cannot be attained and retained by observers. Freedom gained and kept can only be achieved with a warrior class who will stand firm and who will live the words they speak.
Will the gun owners of America just sit back in their comfort zones, write a check and let someone else continue the losing battle for their right to own and bear arms?
Does America have a warrior class or an observer class unwilling to take the risks necessary to proclaim freedom throughout the land through action?
Do Americans really have the stomach for freedom or will we just continue to read about some old guys in kilts who dared defy a King?
An interesting question. Time will tell.
